Week 1

The Brief

Your first brief is to design a brochure that promotes a set of three thematically linked recreational destinations or activities in the greater Wellington region. The overall theme of the brochure must fit under one of the following themes:

  • Sports & Recreation
  • Arts & Culture
  • Food & Drink

The solution must balance form and function by communicating the content in a way that is engaging and easy to comprehend. The aim of this project is to develop an explicit understanding of the design process through the exploration of the fundamental design principles.

For our first lesson we were put into groups and asked to brainstorm ideas that link to the three recreational destination/ activities. This helped me think of some ideas with my peers on what direction I could take this brochure in.

 Research

After deciding on the direction I was going to take my brochure in after a few class exercises and group discussions, I visited my three locations and gathered some information on the areas by taking photos, sketches and writing notes. I then started to look into design concepts and layouts.

After visiting my three locations I listed down certain mood and feelings to illustrate the area
. I looked at textures, mood, and colours that I felt represent each area best.

Week 2

I started to look at design examples that were similar to the basic idea I was drafting. I looked for certain elements I could carry through with my design, the layering of landscapes, in particular, to create familiar areas by utilizing common aspects in my design.

I then started to illustrate my areas by combining what I have gathered

Week 4

I had to begin to think about my design and text layout, so I sketched some thumbnails out and looking at what font worked well together.
