Making

Week 2

I first worked on creating my basic background theme I would carry throughout my compositions, seeing as I chose 'stargazing' as my topic I decided it should be consistent throughout and highlighting the different landscapes in each area would show the difference in each location.

After Gathering information and images from my locations we brought them to class and worked with mark making, representing our imagery in abstract ways. It helped me to unpack my location and note the finer details in a constructive and effective way.

Created my own sky map which could be used in my Carters Observatory composition.

Week 3

I started considering text within my collage and how I was going to organise my spreads by sketching up some quick thumbnails. I worked out rather quickly that having a busy collage to the right was going to be hard to show flow with my text on the left.

After playing around I decided to change the orientation of my composition to landscape and have it fit across the whole spread and placing my text on top if it in some way to tie it in together.

Week 4

Now that I have my theme established, I started to work on my third composition and cover page, using elements I already have used in my other compositions that are relevant to my destination. Making sure I'm including my Three layers of information for each destination.

Week 5

I have spent quite a bit of time working on my compositions, that I haven't put much thought into my text and layout. With only a week to go, I have to quickly figure out how to make my text legible.

The light blue with the transparency made the text difficult to read.

Week 6

I tried a bold black strip and changed my font type and increased the leading.
I also tried breaking up the strip by adding more strips, but as usual I was making it more complicated then it needed to be and it ended up being too distracting.
